Daily OpusEverything I write is freely rebloggable. Just keep the source and tell people about my books :D [Until I decide otherwise, my pronouns are Ze/Hir/Hirself. As in "Ze went to the shops to get hir medication hirself". Thank you for the respect.]
I don’t usually share this kind of thing, and I will delete it later. But this June 20th the EU want to pass Article 13 that will destroy fair use on the internet and will effect non-EU residents too. Goodbye to making money from fan art and livestreaming games and parody videos. No can do. Visit saveyourinternet.eu to very simply send a pre-written email to you MEPs. Please spread awareness as there’s not much time.
All you people who were afraid of Net Neutrality should be terrified of this.
It didn’t take long after the National Guard was activated in North Dakota for militarized law enforcement to descend upon the site of the Dakota Access Pipeline. Today, mass arrests began as riot gear-clad police attempted to break up Native American opposition to the construction of the pipeline, which has been halted at one locationbut continues elsewhere.
According to independent news outlet Unicorn Riot, at least 20 protesters, or “water protectors,” have been arrested at gunpoint along with medics and two journalists. Police issued a one-time warning to “water protectors” that any trespassers would be arrested. The warning came after several people locked themselves to construction equipment in acts of civil disobedience on Tuesday.
Unicorn Riot, which has been broadcasting live video of the tense standoff in North Dakota, says Facebook has been censoring their link from livestream.com.
Commenters on their Facebook page were also complaining they could not share the video. Screenshots posted by page followers show Facebook blocked the link.
[UPDATE: A Unicorn Riot collective member confirmed to Anti-Media via email that Facebook was blocking the video link with its “automated censorship system.”
“At a critical moment of our coverage of a Dakota Access Pipeline direct action today, Facebook’s automated censorship system blocked our video URL, shortly before two of our journalists were arrested onsite. As we started to cover today’s direct action, our collective members immediately noticed that the full Livestream event URL (https://livestream.com/unicornriot/events/6340986) was being blocked from Facebook. Posts and comments with the URL both immediately triggered popup security alerts. We tried putting the same URL through Bitly shortening and that official Unicorn Riot page post was deleted by Facebook within a few minutes. Finally we went with sharing our ‘Live Channel’ URL on our own website which had the embed included on it.
“We also verified that the ‘Facebook Debugger’ warned that our live video URL violated ‘community standards.’ Both Facebook and law enforcement acted to block our media distribution today, but we will not let them stop our mission to amplify the voices of people who might otherwise go unheard, and broadcast the stories that might otherwise go untold.
“Also, as one member of the collective, I should point out it is obviously concerning when a large media conglomerate blocks URLs to competing video platforms.”]
A surveillance plane was also seen patrolling the protest site, reportsUnicorn Riot.
Anti-Media has reached out to Morton County Sheriff’s Department for comment and will update this story if they respond.
Want to be in our next music video? Well we want you in it! The Steam Powered Giraffe fandom is filled with a diverse amount of people from all walks of life. We love showcasing all the talented, beautiful people that come to our shows and inhabit our corner of the web.
We have a song called Malfunction on our upcoming album Quintessential that deals with diversity and using the robot metaphor “malfunction” to apply to things that society may consider flawed or quirky. But we’re looking at it as a positive. That’s the theme here: A positive spin on being “broken.”
Granted, this can be a sensitive area for many folks. This may not be everyone’s cup of tea. So if you’re willing to participate, please know we will not disclose personal information or names (even if you want us to).
Please understand our intent is to paint our subjects in a positive light and to have fun! That said- we can only select a few of these to showcase, so there’s no guarantee your video will appear in the final project.
But, if you do end up creating something- we encourage you to share it on #whatsyourmalfunction via Tumblr or Twitter!
You may remember this project back in 2014, but we decided to hold off on releasing the song. With Malfunction’s release on Quintessential September 1st, we want to make the music video and utilize our fans! All past entries we’re discarding for the sake of relevance. But feel free to re-submit under the new requirements!
Lets get started!
You have until Sunday, July 24th to submit your video to us. After that date we won’t be accepting anymore entries.
Things You’ll Need:
-11 x 17 White Poster or Bristol Board -Black Sharpie pen -A cameraphone with a selfie option
Create a sign to hold up for your video selfie on a piece of 11 x 17 white poster or bristol board paper. Whatever you choose to write on, the sign should be in black ink with thick letters.
On one side, write down what people might perceive as your “malfunction.” Next, create a short selfie video in a well lit area. You can wear whatever you’d like. Maybe it’s just beautiful casual you in a t-shirt and jeans. Maybe you feel better as your fursona. Maybe cosplay represents you better. However you want to appear- do it (of course…nudity isn’t advised. :|).
In the video, hold your camera phone at fully extended arms length HORIZONTALLY WIDESCREEN
and hold up your sign for a few moments with your “malfunction” written on it. And remember to smile!
Keep in mind we need it to be you recording a selfie video of yourself, horizontal. No portrait shots.
Remember to fill out and sign the form completely! If you need to print, sign, and scan the document- do it! If you are a minor we do need your parents permission.
Your video will not be considered without a signed Video Release Form.
By submitting you understand that while we wish we could showcase all of these- only a select few will be used due to the time restraints.
However, we do encourage folks to post their videos (or jpgs or gifs) on #whatsyourmalfunction via Tumblr or Twitter.
Now get out there and do your thing! Have fun!

Just a reminder if you missed my recent stream, I’m partially done with editing on the video and I could still use more submissions! You now have until August 18th to get your submissions in if you haven’t already!
As a note, we’re not using any submissions with robot makeup or any extensive character makeup, as beautiful as you all are, and the video must be landscape and a selfie!
Feel free to resubmit if you’d like!
No robot makeup, sorry guys. It was decided against. Sometimes the creative decisions come down and crush stuff. That’s why I’m struggling to get more videos, because half the video had fanbots in it.
Third post to clarify, but apparently we did say no robot videos on day one, but it wasn’t in the original post…instead it was my follow up clarification one. I don’t think many people saw it.
All the same, the original post was too vague. We edited some parts of it postmortem to clarify, but looks like we missed the mark!
Apologies again for the confusion.
Aaaaaaah crud vapours. I did a shot of me sitting still because I frelling KNEW I would muck up the rhythm somehow and now I’m cut out and I’m scared to do another one and youprobablydidn’tgetitanywayandAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!
Boy gamers are so self-centered they act as though women haven’t been playing video games for decades, and then act horrified when the female gamers who have always been there actually become visible and vocal about the rampant misogyny that has infected the gaming world.
Like seriously, how entitled do you have to be that women saying “it sure would be nice if I wasn’t treated like shit while enjoying the games I play” translates to “I must be catered to” when video games have LITERALLY been catered to men for decades?
The tragic case of Corey Kanosh, 35, has received very little media attention, in spite of the growing outrage over police shootings of unarmed, innocent citizens. In Corey’s case, we are not dealing with an African American man shot by white cops, but an unarmed Native American man who was suspected of crimes that he was later proven innocent of, who was given only seconds before police opened fire on him.
Corey was a member of the Paiute Tribe of Utah. In spite of the historical injustices committed by the State against Native Americans, his story has received virtually no national attention. Now, his friends and family have been pushing to move the legal process forward, but so far they have only raised a tiny amount of money.
“The hold up on progressing has been due to lack of money to fund the oh so dreaded legal process,” they explain. “We need your help. Please help us on our way to get this case back up and ready. It’s time to take on the unwilling non-cooperative Millard County Sheriffs Department.”
Corey was shot by a Millard County sheriff’s deputy after he was wrongly suspected of car theft.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lindsay Mitchell explained that a 911 call was made about the theft of a car from the Kanosh Paiute Indian Reservation. But Corey had nothing to do with that.
Ferguson is everyday, and it seems like everyday we’re given a new reason to fight. Stay committed, stay strong, and, most of all, stay woke. #farfromover
I have literally not heard a single peep about Ferguson since November 24th from anywhere other than tumblr, twitter, and friends on Facebook. Social media is the only way the majority of people are going to hear anything, and especially without the racist spin from the mainstream news. The importance of this can’t be overstated.
