Faith is a strange thing. Belief is powerful, but people can believe things at varying degrees of harm to themselves and others. Belief that one can fly -if one’s faith is strong enough- is only dangerous to oneself if put to the extreme test. Belief in the miasma theory is harmful to many if a plague strikes. It’s all about context.
Belief in what happens to the soul after a life is ended is unproven, unprovable, and the undeniable definition of faith. Science remains true without belief. Faith is believing regardless of any proof. Somewhere in there, a truth exists.

You will come across materials in this field of study that will disagree with your own personal values. This is to be expected. However, I do not expect anger from you about this. This is a study on the nature of religion across all known cultures within the Galactic Alliance. This is not a debate about which one is 'correct’.
The professor waited a span of minutes for all the forewarned to leave the room. Some would stay for this introductory lecture, but never return. This was normal.

She bobbed around with a very put-upon expression on her tiny, draconic features. She had only shrieked once, when this wandering minor god had first pulled this stunt. That was enough for them, unfortunately.
“Listen,” said Wraithvine. “We already know we’re merely mortal beings who are literally at your mercy… but you also need us. Deities need worshippers. Worship gives you power, and it gives you life. We… can be your agents.”

Where there is a will, there is a way, and where there is a niche, there is a God. There is a Goddess of Fields and Flowers. There is a Goddess of Motherhood and another of Fertility. Sometimes, they pinch-hit for each other. These are realms in which feminity is expected, and downright necessary. For patrilineal societies, there is definitely a Goddess of Virginity.
What is unexpected is the one known informally as the Goddess of Fools. The more formal name for her is She of Ale-Soaked Dares. Or, She They Strive For.
Because ale-addled men will do anything for a shapely lady, or a comely face, or an interesting combination anywhere near the two. Ale and testosterone are lethal combinations, especially when attempting to impress a potential mate. Most men that young and that foolhardy also falsely believe that they are immortal, and thus haven’t sworn to any particular God.

Those who fail to learn from the lessons of history, it is said, are doomed to repeat them. This is not just limited to those who fail their History tests. The moving finger may have written, but it tends to write in circles. Ninety percent of all wars are declared out of revenge for the previous war.
There are no accurate battle cries that go, “Remember the last atrocity that they committed against us that justifies the atrocities that we are about to commit on them!” If there were, there might be less wars. If leaders were honest about riling up hatred for the enemy, there would be less people eager to fight them. But that’s why propaganda exists.
In this country, there has always been a war against evil. Against oppressors, against violence, against those who have the resources that we want, but honesty should never enter politics. History should never enter politics, either, or people would learn how often the actions of Leaders in the past have lead directly to the troubles of today. People could easily learn that their own country is its worst enemy. And then what would they do?

People often wonder what it would be like if the Almighty came to earth to see the hatred and strife that humanity perpetuates on itself. What people forget is that God is love. And there is only one mortal form that holds only pure and unconditional love. It has four legs, and a waggy tail.
Grace was not thinking any of this as she sat on the stoop, freshly evicted, with all the personal belongings she was allowed to keep in a cardboard box. No job. No hope. Not even money for a meal. And the growing fear that she would die on this stoop and nobody would care. So far, she had yet to stop crying.
And something licked her hand.
