dropping truth bombs
THIS. It’s only very recently in human history (and still only for a relatively small percentage of the world’s population!) that childbirth has become even partway ‘safe’. And even so things can still go very, very wrong very quickly, even for a very healthy mother and baby. I’m a medievalist, and, well, people in the middle ages don’t leave notes on the historical record when they’re pregnant, or even when they give birth (with some exceptions at the top of the social scale where you can see expenditures related to christening or churching, or celebrations for the birth of a new prince). You know what DOES fairly reliably say ‘this (noble/royal) woman was pregnant at this time’? She writes her will.
