It’s really refreshing to see this, coming from someone who lives in the South.
I honestly have to second the last comment on this. I’m so used to the South being a bastion of racism and other grossness, it’s so good to see a Southerner calling people on their shit.

He only wanted to do good. To improve things for everyone. To make the world a better place. There were just a few things that he needed to make sure of. For the good of everyone. Well. Almost everyone. There were some… bad elements… that needed dealing with.
The drains on society, of course. Those without any plausible avenue to making the world better. Those who took without giving. And those who made too much noise about the way things needed to be done. Those who put the brakes on the wheels of progress. Useless people.
They needed everyone to work for a better world. And if they would not or could not work, then they did not deserve the world everyone else made. Getting rid of them by any means necessary just made sense. It was the greater good.
Lyr Marken prays every night for a peaceful day. As a Security Officer,
her ideal day is one in which nothing happens. Unfortunately for her,
there is a very small matter to greet her in the morning. A small matter
named Peaches (F), 3.4 Standard Weight Units, aged two hours, who has
been found, abandoned, at a Transit Station. She has to find the mother
and make certain that she has all the welfare she needs. And there are
signs that the mother may be fleeing an abusive situation.
And worse - all the potential parents who have been waiting to adopt a child have her number…
