Challenge #02748-G191: Howdy Neighbour

If you truly think that your world is needed to be saved; you’re a bigger fool than I thought… – Anon Guest

It had been quite the journey to the distant station. More effort in one lifetime than Rilissith’s people had been through in recent history. They had been ambling vaguely towards space travel for previous centuries, but that was before they discovered that something was going chronically wrong with their solar system.

They could, with their current technology, launch one person at appreciable speed towards the installation. It had been there for a century or two, at least. Whoever was there was keeping to themselves, and not bothering the planet of Sahaemar, so the scientists observing it weren’t concerned.

Rilissith became concerned when hir scanners revealed that the inhabitants of the station were Deathworlders. There was no going back, all the same. Ze ran through everything hir people had gathered about Deathworlders and how to appeal to what there was of their better nature.

Challenge #02735-G178: Life and Pie

The elderly human was sitting on the porch of their home here on Earth when a shuttle neatly landed on the wide gravel road not far from the garage. They were curious, didn’t get many visitors out here on the farm. Once things had settled and were quiet again, the door opened and soon the alien stepped out. The alien, a middle-aged being, smiled and greeted their old friend and went to sit with them for a while. The did promise, as duties permitted, they would visit after all. So, it being a pleasantly sunny day, and duties were light, it was a good time to sit, have some tea, and chat about the past when they were shipmates, and some of the more interesting times from back then. – DaniAndShali

Even Humans slow down, though it’s hard for some species to tell the difference. Even Humans grow old and age. Even the most formidable among them grow frail. Science has made the descent slow and gentle, but it happens nonetheless. It has even happened to Human Dav “Deathwish” Lyonn.

Age has wearied him, but the years have not condemned. Yet. Ze keeps hir livesuit in operational condition and has made a few modifications as concessions to hir declining mobility. As part of hir exercise regime, Human Dav is making apple pie. It’s the kneading and rolling that’s important. Not the lengths of extravagance that ze’s come to perform with the crust.

Humans will add anything to mandatory activity in order to make it more enjoyable simply because it is mandatory activity and therefore boring and uninteresting. This is why Humans invented cheese sauce shortly after they discovered the health benefits of broccoli.

Challenge #02708-G151: Bug of Contention

The two humans in this ship are really close. They will do nearly anything to save the other. On the other claw, they destroyed the training room arguing about whether a certain earth insect is a lighting bug or firefly. – Anon Guest

The two Ships’ Humans were out of breath, bruising, and one of them had a dark reddish-brown ichor leaking from their nose. They were also kept well out of each other’s grip by the presence of Companion Jorx directly between them.

“I don’t understand,” said Duty Captain Vredd. “We were under the impression that you were a bonded pair.”

“Oh yeah, we’re still ride or die for each other,” said Human Zo, who was the one leaking ichor. “Right, babe?”

“Yeah,” said Human Stef. “Even though you’re completely wrong about lightning bugs.”

Empathy, Copying and sharing Emotions.

Even 2-Year old Humans can do that.

So, how do they react, when they met a crying Havenworlder who lost his Travelgroup on Earth? – Mike

Xu wasn’t lost. Not really. They could trace their way all the way back to the play gym that Ama had left them at for just a few minutes. What Xu was, was distracted. They were distracted because there was a bunny in armour looking lost and alone.

Not really a bunny, actually. They had long ears and fuzz, but they were also in an armoured suit. A livesuit. Xu had seen those in the holos. That meant that they needed protection. They needed a hero. Xu decided that they would have to do until they both found someone better.

The not-bunny in the livesuit had forward-facing eyes with weird pupils. They stopped where they were and held their hands up in a don’t-hurt-me pose. Xu stopped and copied them. They couldn’t speak much GalSimple, but maybe it was enough.

Challenge #02620-G063: To Become Human

The memorial ceremony was solemn. As their crewmate was laid to rest, the family given the posthumus honors the crewperson had earned for their heroism, their crewmates and captain were stunned by what had happened. The human marines that had been invited to attend stood at attention and saluted the grave of this small, fluffy, Havenworlder one last time with all the respect a human could give for someone who’d shown such courage.

The crew had razzed their crewmate calling them human because they so very much liked to imitate that insane species. Too much exposure to their insanity, some crew would say. But that horrific night, that terrible storm, their crewmate had done a very Human thing. Something no Havenworlder had done before, at least that they knew of. This crewmate told the Last Lie…. and paid for the lives of their crew, by fearlessly sacrificing their own. – Anon Guest

Human insanity is infectious. Somewhere, somehow, a nonhuman cogniscent starts to think that their Deathworlder illogic makes sense. After that, all might as well be lost. It was certainly lost for Gryx, honorary space marine. Ze had come to study Humans in something approaching a native environment, and the pack-bonders had done what they do best. Without even thinking about it. Without pause for due consideration. They bonded. Intensely.

So, when the storm came, and they crashed in a cliffside and the only shelter was the cavern beyond their scout ship… but not for very long… When there was a way to fix it so the storm would not come in, but the only opening was just wide enough for Gryx… ze acted without a thought. Ze said, “You go ahead, I will catch up.” Ze patched the crack that would have let in toxic atmospheric particles.

They found hir later, halfway through the narrow gap that had allowed the little fluffy Havenworlder egress to save them all. Well. Almost all. They had made the repairs and saved the crew… finally perishing mere inches away from safety. Ze had given all they had for hir pack.
