Challenge #02759-G202: Empirically Tested

I would love to see Mythbusters in Space! You know, where some humans have seen the original old videos of it and decides to do a new mythbuster series based for their era? It’d be cool! – DaniAndShali

[AN: In light of recent losses, I have debated having a Human Grant in this one and… honestly… I didn’t want to risk disrespect to his memory]

“We all know how Human drama has historically portrayed asteroid fields,” said Human Steve at a planning table. Ze, and hir co-host, were helpfully labelled for newcomers.

“Lies,” said Human Bob, and gestured to a screen displaying a ship dodging space rocks left, right, and centre. An ancient audio clip played a sound-bite that said, “It’s only a model,” as if the watching audience couldn’t tell.

“Visually appealing lies because we went into several asteroid fields and this was what we saw,” Steve gestured to a display that held lots of black, some stars, and a few visual augmentations pointing out actual asteroids and the distances they were from the viewer.

Master Chef in SPAAACCEE!!! – Anon Guest

Chefs tend to treat certain groups of people differently. Professionals who mess up are far more likely to get the chewing out of a lifetime than a small child or a student who is just beginning to learn. The most famous of them who held this philosophy has managed to spread it memetically through most of Human space. Now, every Human chef follows the same philosophy.

Now, because of the Train Wreck Phenomenon, cogniscents all over known space watch entertainments in which at least one Human chef bawls out alleged professionals competing for a prize. What the prize is, but what never differs is the length and breadth of creativity in the Human’s insults towards the other chefs.

That’s what most people tune in for, anyway. They come for the insults, they stay for the pageantry of competition, creativity, and tension created by all of the above. Some watched strictly to test their resilience by the method of exposure to dramatic musical stings. Very few indeed watched it for the cooking ideas.

Humans watch an alien horror movie featuring the humans as the monster – TheDragonsFlame

The idea of genre is nothing new. The idea of Horror is something uniquely human that took off in various forms around Galactic Society. An entertainment designed to scare, but not scare badly. Or to be really bad at scaring, depending on your point of view. It was a means by which Havenworlders could toughen up their genes and join larger and larger areas of Galactic Society.

And since it was a human genre, the humans eventually found what Galactic Society had done to it. Which lead to a re-revival of the movie theatre, since most of the genre were in non-holographic format.

Rael wasn’t in it to study humans. If you asked anyone, they would have said that he understood humans too well. He was in it for the popcorn, and to potentially stop Ambassador Shayde before she happened to anyone else. And right now, she was enjoying a Gyiik-sized bucket of a concoction called poppycock. A mixture of popcorn, nuts, butter toffee, and random treats that Nik had taken to like an amphibian to water. And, Rael had to grudgingly admit, it was more or less the food of the non-existent gods, as far as his metabolism was concerned.

Actual or mental popcorn. – @knitnan

They were sitting together on the couch, with buckets of butter-flavoured popcorn, and watching an archived entertainment as part of Ambassador Shayde’s greater day job.

Rael gradually acquired the sensation that this particular entertainment had little worth.

“Is there a message behind this?”
