-is basically not treatable once you start showing symptoms. Straight up you will die and not in any kind of fun way. We’re talking flu symptoms that develop into hallucinations, severe hydrophobia, partial paralysis and a slew of other shit.
-99% of rabies cases in the world come from stray dog bites. EXCEPT IN THE US. Rabies vaccines have nearly illuminated the threat from dogs. Our biggest concerns are wild animals like raccoons, skunks, foxes and coyotes and feral cats.
-Rabies is extremely preventable by vaccines and nearly nonexistent in countries where the vaccine is widely available and taken advantage of.
-B U T if people stop VACCINATING THEIR DOGS (and other animals that are susceptible like cats and farm animals like cows, horses and goats) we will likely see a rise in rabies cases among free roaming animals and BECAUSE we dont experience many cases (because of vaccines) and often people arent informed. We know “rabies is bad” but that seems to be it in a lot of cases, I’d wager a lot of people dont knownits transferable from animals to humans at all.
-Most rabies cases in humans are children under 15.

If these people don’t give an actual fuck about their own pets OR the children who could die if their rabid pets bites them, maybe they’ll start giving a fuck when the bereaved parents of the deceased children sue their asses into bankruptcy.
(Some people’s moral compasses are so skewed that no point you could make about human suffering will sway them, only points about how the choices they’re making will impact their finances.)

I tend to be a bit private about my real life, but this is an exception. The organization I work for is a non-profit called the Endangered Alphabets Project. We work with endangered languages and writing systems around the world, both increasing awareness of these writing systems and helping the communities themselves raise literacy in their unique scripts.
This, obviously, costs money. Long story short, we need your help. Our current kickstarter has 3 days to its deadline (November 2nd), and we have raised $10,000, but we are $5,000 short of our goal. If we don’t reach our goal, we get nothing. I know many people on here feel strongly about indigenous language and cultural revitalization; please help support the work we do towards that goal.
