On the Care and Maintenance of Larval Autistes

Not all larval Autiste needs are covered, but these are some of the very basics.

What is Time?

I am temporally challenged. I am Autistic. This might be a comorb that more Autistes share.

Let’s compare notes.

Autism and You: Things I Want Nypicals to Know

Autism and Me, Part Four: Things Could be Better

We just need a few more tiny fixes for a better world.

Reblog
recklessprudence asked, "Trying to explain to people that no, autistic people do not need 'curing', and if you actually did so you would actually be killing the person that is there and getting a new person that retains the memories of the person you killed, instead. That the real hardship of having autism is not the autism itself, but that society is not willing to make even the most BASIC of concessions towards people who are different. That we are autistic people, not people with autism, and they can FUCK RIGHT OFF."

(cont) And it is so TIRING. It’s not really that hard to grasp, is it? That we’re people and should be granted the basic respect everyone deserves? That perhaps instead of listening to Autism Warrior Mums, you should listen to AUTISTIC PEOPLE when trying to determine their wants and needs? That we shouldn’t be ‘cured’, and there shouldn’t be foetal screenings to ensure that people like us aren’t born in the first place? I just… it’s not that hard, right?

I can honestly say I have the good fortune of not encountering that much horseshit. My peeve is the Anti-vax mothers who swear that autism is a fate worse than literal death.

[I’m sure we’ve all seen the one about the kid who caught the first case of tetanus in Ohio because they didn’t ‘need’ a vaccine 9_9]

There’s people alive today who have no idea that tetanus is a thing. There’s people who don’t recognise that some “harmless kids’ diseases” are only harmless because vaccines exist. I lived through the era when people would pray for your kid if they caught measles.

Yeah. You can’t ever convince me that vaccines are more dangerous than Autism. One: I predate the MMR vaccine that started all the fuss. Still have Autism. Two: I remember the days when some of these diseases were deadly. Three: The leading cause of death in autistic kids is… (drumroll) Their fucking parents.

So yeah. Enough of the Burden Porn that centres around the entire autistic demographic.

Have you heard about “puppetgate”? There is an actual play that contains a non-verbal autistic character who is portrayed by an actual freaking puppet. The illogic behind this choice is bending over backwards to degrees unseen outside of a pretzel factory.

There is a sharp divide between autistic people who fucking HATE this bullshit, and the nypical, can’t-get-enough-burden-porn theatre reviewers who think this is the best thing since sliced eggs.

I’m willing to bet money that if these peeps could abort an autistic kid, they would, simply because of all the Burden Porn out there.

We need to end Burden Porn.

If I could sponsor a Hallmark Type movie showing parents how to interact with their autistic kids, I would. Intensive Interaction etc, etc. Show all these Burden Porn arseholes that there are other ways to view autism.

Even if I could write scripts, I wouldn’t have the wherewithal to get it out there. Alas.

What say all of us Autistics gather together and make our own anti-burden porn production?

Challenge #02169-E340: Local Womens’ Controversy Club

“As Chairman, I’d like to call to order this 1,357th meeting of the local ‘Responsible Parenting’ committee.” – Anon Guest

“Daisy… It’s the coffee and cake meet.”

“I want it to feel more official,” objected Daisy. “It’s about vaccination.”

Five women in the room all rolled their eyes. “I thought we weren’t going to bring up controversial topics at these,” objected Claire.

“What’s controversial about protecting your kids?” asked Julie.

Tropes Vs Autism: The Burden

I got up at 4 in the morning to rant about this one. Enjoy.

Hey, fellow autistic people?

What’s some of the stuff that you end up hearing from the allegedly normal on the daily? I’m doing a little bit of field research here and I’d love y’all to reblog with some of the nypical horseshit that makes life at minimum uncomfortable.

I’ll start everyone off:

  • Why can’t you be normal? [School life peers]
  • Why do you have to be like that?
  • [Any kind of talking down]
  • [after an infodump] That wasn’t a real question.
  • That isn’t what I asked. [Er. Yes you did ask that, I just gave you an unexpected answer]
  • You’re weird.
  • Are you on drugs?
  • What are you taking and where can I get some?
  • [whilst backing away] Oh… kay…
  • Did you know that you’re [self-stimming behaviour description]

Challenge #01907-E083: Pitcher Plant — Steemit

“I turned around for just a second, and she was gone. Off like a shot. I couldn’t catch her. I didn’t see which way she went. She just… she just went.”

It was the same complaint all over Lower Tadfield Young teens and children above toddler age were going missing. Even the people running the funfair were complaining. But there was something… odd… about the people running the funfair. Something… uncanny.

And the more children that were missing, the more attractions there were at the funfair. The brighter it was. The louder it was. The more sparkly it was. The more attractive to small, young minds it was. Except for some.

elsinore-snores:

hi you guys! so i am an autistic, agender, ace disabled person living on my own in europe. i am unable to get a conventional job so I’ve decided to try and improve living experience for me and other disabled people like me. I have created these sensory-friendly fabric noise muffling headbands and beanies in plain, space/plants/animals, and custom designs! everything ships from Greece for $1 and all proceeds go towards me not dying and also gettng a service dog and paying rent. you can also use this for ptsd/anxiety/adhd –  I know it works for me.

i would really appreciate it if people could reblog this, even if you’re not disabled or don’t know any disabled people who might need this. this is my livelihood and i’m going to try and expand beyond these beanies and headbands to design a whole line of clothing for autistic people, including bracers to protect your forearms during self injury episodes!
