Lust of the Demon Lord, part 2

I couldn’t bring myself to wax lyrical about the mess the world is in so here… have some high fantasy romance.

Lust of the Demon Lord

What do I write when I don’t want to write anything professional? Shit like this.

This is one of the many things that kept me sane in isolation [Especially when Critical Role shut down after the Friday D&D sesh’s closer to home shut down] and continues to be a bright point in damn depressing days.

I’m sharing it for free because I have NO idea what else to do with it. It’s also not going up on AO3 because the last one was greeted with little more than “meh”. At least here I won’t be able to tell the difference -_-

Challenge #02828-G271: War Makes…

They had been sent in to rescue a high ranking official’s daughter and had, erroneously, assumed she would be some weak, helpless, demanding, little flower that not only would be difficult to rescue, but would be a major headache, and pain in their rears, all the way through the escape and on the way back to the woman’s home world. What they found, instead, was a strong, fierce, self-reliant individual who was as ready with a weapon as any of their team. Which was a good thing, because the way home was not going to be easy, nor would the unexpected reception when they finally returned her to her home.

I really loved the prompt and story with this one, could we see more about the two? The warrior maiden in a world where such are not well looked upon really has a great potential to me.

[AN: Kudge and Liz, a match made in Hell… but in the best possible way]

It was during downtime between points of Very Interesting that Kudge finally found his usual quick mouth. “I gotta say, I always hated the whole ‘delicate flower’ narrative for the executive class of ladies. Like, is the line they draw between delicate flowers and walking trash how much money they have, or could earn, or what their day job is? It’s so arbitrary. I always said everyone should know at least some basic defence. So -uh- where did you learn how to do all that and how can I sign people up for it?”

She looked so wonderful when she smiled. She put her whole self into it. Kudge found himself blushing more than a little as he shyly smiled back. “I’m… kind of self-taught. The instant I was away from any watchful eye, I was searching up methods of combat from unarmed to anything-goes and practising by myself.” Liz blew out a sigh. “Today… well… the last few days have been a learning curve. And a half.”

“Yeah, but you blew up that mountain and took names. You were awesome.” Now that shy grin was all out. Showing off teeth that Kudge was only now self-conscious about. “So what if you were making it up on the fly? You were flying anyway! You soared. Hell, that’s how me an’ the Brutes operate most of the time.”

Challenge #01856-E032: Hungry Love — Steemit

“With… a… full stomach?” said Akiko. “It’s not my fault your boy can’t tell us apart.”

“He’s not my boy,” Chou sighed. “It’s not our fault we’re that hungry, either, it’s just… Might have been nice if you saved me a taste.”

They walked together through the streets. Keeping an eye out for anything useful. Anything they could sell for a few more yen. Looking at them, nobody could tell that these twins were homeless orphans. They took special pains to make certain no-one would ever know.

Challenge #01743-D282: Absence Makes…

“Ugh, I never would have made any friends if I knew I was gonna waste so much time missing them when they’re away.” – OohLookShiny

If there was any one, universal truth to the tragedy of Jarik’s life, it was this: Everyone leaves.

Ze was orphaned young. A disaster that ze couldn’t remember and that politicians denied being to blame for for years afterwards. After the disaster was a fact of hir life. Always moving. Never calling any place home. Months spent in temporary camps and waiting in queues for a little food. No lasting relationships. No meaningful contact. For most of hir life.

So it was no shock that Jarik was the last person in the office to make friends. Even now, when ze had more than a decade of stability under hir belt. Ze was reluctant. Hesitant to be friendly. Awkward at it because ze never learned the rules. And Karil made friends with hir anyway. He was just… that friendly. Everyone liked Karil. Even -in spite of hirself- Jarik.

Challenge #01488-D027: Unrealised, Unrequited, Unrecognised

“If [he][1] was unable to see that I had feelings for him (at least five, but sometimes as many as seven)…” - Carrie Fisher – @recklessprudence

Lyr watched Ambassador Shayde attempting to flirt with Rael. The impossible force against an oblivious stone. There had been more than one instance of interspecies dating that floundered heavily on the sending a signal stage. And not merely because of cultural difference. Subconscious body-speak could cause the most inconvenient miscommunications.

One species’ flirting is another’s aggressive manoeuvre. And in Rael’s case, all signals were lost in the aether because he didn’t even know what was sexy for his own species. ELF’s whose essential data were proprietary information had a lot of that problem. Once every other decade or so, someone had the bright idea to make The Enlisted Man again, or create some gene-slave that bordered on the very cusp of legal. What followed when such efforts were discovered… Chaos was the mildest term. Rael faced years of legal purgatory with unreleased infants held hostage in cryostorage and essential medical information debated over as intellectual property of a company that was, in essence, dancing as hard as it could to stay out of the coals in their shoes.

The end result was that everyone on the station could tell that Shayde had a Thing for Rael. Except for Rael. He was almost more clueless than a writer, missing every obvious signal that Shayde sent. But he caught the occasional signal and attempted to shut her down. He avoided dating. Dating lead to mating. And thanks to the people who made him, he didn’t have the slightest idea of what to do or if it would kill him when he got there.

Challenge #01425-C330: Corrupted Signals

Truly showing someone you love them. – @recklessprudence

Mating displays in the common human are more than perplexing. Subtle signs of affection are usually missed and overt signals of hostility are misinterpreted. The dominating culture of an individual can lead to confusion when meeting an individual from another…

“Hey babe.”

“I’m working.” Kiri didn’t even look up from her work. Didn’t acknowledge him.
