Reading about nonwhite cultures and their history irritates me because they made so contributions that white people get credit for.

I was reading about a Persian Muslim scientist named Al-Tusi who wrote a book discussing about the concept of evolution DURING THE THIRTEENTH CENTURY. He discusses about evolution almost 600 years before Darwin and never had I heard about him until I decided to dive into the depths of the internet.

Having a post get a lot of notes until weird ass whites start attacking me in replies and anon asks lol

Also, Indians didn’t just invent zero, we knew the circumference of the earth, that the earth was not flat but round, that the solar system is heliocentric, and we also had cataract surgery, plastic surgery and the first actual university in history and we also invented shampoo and processed sugar. This is just a small list off the top of my head.

NO PRINTER JUST FAX!!!!

WHITE PEOPLE NEED TO REBLOG THIS

Also, some things achieved in the Islamic world/ stuff that contributed to nowadays:

1.Mental institutes that provided care for the mentally ill- which had various therapies including music therapy.

2. Most of the Aristotelian philosophy we have nowadays are only there because Muslim scholars loved translating things are writing commentaries.

3.Algebra, sinewave and Arabic numerals - i.e the numbers we use in English now instead of Latin numerals- all Islamic innovations.

4. Early iterations of the scientific method came from various Islamic scholars including Ibn al-Haytham- a Muslim polymath who emphasised experimental data and reproductivity of results.

5. Some of the first modern hospitals and universities were brought to you by none others than Islamic scholars.

6. Muslim physics also had early versions of newton’s law and much more.

And that’s as far as I am in the mood t go as this post could go on for pages and pages and I’ll still not be done so yeah.

Also, all of these discoveries are because freedom of expression and belief as long as it did not infringe harm to the rights of others was a massive pillar of the era. And because Islam as a religion encourages its believers/ followers/idk to educate themselves and knowledge is held to a very high prestige.

I was on the subway today, and when the train got delayed, this little kid was like, “fuck,” and a literal chorus of grown-ups went: “HEY.”

let him say fuck

I was at a crossing once and a kid’s dad said ‘and we have to wait for the green man’ and the 30 people on this crossing all stood waiting for the green man just to prove to this kid that that’s what you do. I’ve never seen anyone wait for the green man on this crossing before you just go when its clear. But Everyone Waited.

Corollary to “it takes a village” is that you’re gonna get a village whether you ask for it or not.

I’ll sometimes take a chance at pedestrian crossings if the road is clear, but am physically incapable of doing so if a child is waiting to cross too, even if the road is empty for a mile in either direction.

OH THIS IS A MOOD

I do not want to be the goon responsible for a little kid rushing out into moving traffic just because they saw the lady in the red coat do it. Lead by example. All humans understand this and the majority follow this. Because even if they aren’t aware of it, none of them want to be the example a kid thinks of before they get themselves killed.

I once crossed the street before the signal happened and a kid on the opposite side pointed at me and was like “HE CROSSED TOO EARLY” and his dad went “yes and that’s dangerous” and I looked the kid dead in the eye and went “I’ve been hit by a car three times, listen to your father”.

Gentrification creates a stifling homogeneity in urban areas that makes it less suited for the everyday lives of the lower class and more suited towards the leisure and tourism of those with expendable income.

An old, decrepit laundromat gets replaced by an upscale bakery? And people are mad? It’s not that the poor hate organic vegan cupcakes, it’s that most of us don’t have a way to do laundry in our own home.

Run-down corner stores replaced by hand-made designer clothing boutiques? We don’t hate your eco-fabric shawl, but I can’t eat that for dinner after work like I could have a can of beans I grabbed from that corner store when I don’t have time to take the bus to the real grocery store after work.

What gentrification brings in and of itself is not typically bad, it’s that gentrification brings institutions of leisure and pleasure and makes it so that the poor have to go farther out of their way for basic necessities. It turns low-income living spaces into local tourist attractions. It can even create food deserts by putting restaurants, grocery stores, etc. in that the majority of the lower class cannot afford.

Imagine if someone totally renovated your house and turned it into a mini theme park - they took away your sleeping space, where you prepare food, where you clean yourself and get ready for your day, and replaced it with things that will please people who are visiting, who have their own homes they can go back to, who are here not for their entire life but just as a distraction from their otherwise mundane existence. It’s not that you hate theme parks, it’s not like you’ve never been to a theme park and vow to never visit one again. It’s just that you need to live! To survive! And the leisure of those who have more than you should not invalidate your existence.

I am glad this has made the rounds. Some people feel a dense misunderstanding or misinterpretation concerning gentrification, and I think it helps to hear a description/explanation of what gentrification is from those who are both affected by it and educated by the culture from which it hails. I and many others enjoy some of the delights of gentrification while simultaneously having their livelihoods threatened by it.
