Challenge #02253-F063: A Little Support

Havenworlders learn about same-gender-Relationships.

Yeah go from there wherever you are comfortable. – Anon Guest

[AN: I’m glad you said that, OP]

Evolution is a funny old thing. It is driven - if one can call a system based around random mutations, chance, happenstance, and incidental accidents ‘driven’ - by the concept of preserving the next generation so that more generations will happen. On Deathworlds, this means that there has to be a portion of the population ready to nurture young that has been abandoned or has otherwise lost its parents. In brief, homosexuality is part of Nature’s Plan.

At least, it is on Deathworlds. Havenworlds, with less in the way of progress, so to speak, have less need for spare bonded pairs that are otherwise unable to breed[1]. Therefore, the so-called 'gay gene’ has less necessity on Havenworlds. It is far rarer to see Havenworlders who bond within their own gender. Rarer still, for there to be any issue concerning gender identity.

It’s also less of a cause for alarm, rather, it’s more of a 'pressure release valve’ of Evolution to prevent overpopulation by the bonded pairs who can - and do -breed. So, when Thys met Human Dan’s husband, there was only a moment of mild confusion at the Youth Education Centre.

Challenge #01874-E050: Welcome Back — Steemit

It was later. The wounds had been repaired and bandaged. The fires had been extinguished. The echoes of the explosions had long since died down. And Tierl was still pissed. Because she was waiting for Jan to wake up after the flakking mess she’d made. Sure, there were upsides and downsides to loving a Lucker, and this was the one that irritated Tierl the most. Watching time tick by. Watching the health indicators tick and jig as Jan’s body recovered from everything Jan had done to herself.

Love could be a pain in the arse, sometimes. Just like Tierl’s belief that visiting Jan’s recovery drawer would somehow speed her recovery from the coma she had put herself in pulling some damn fool stunt to save the day. Which, in her defense, Jan had done. But at severe cost.

Sure, medical care was subsidised, but visiting her wife’s drawer every day was flakking painful to endure. And, of course, when Jan recovered consciousness and movement capability, it was when Tierl was at work because of course things worked that way when one was married to a Lucker. It would have been exhausting, but Jan was back amongst the allegedly cogniscent.

Challenge #01697-D236: Monstrophilia

[about a six year old]

“You must admit, her enthusiasm [for horrible monstrosities of nature] is quite charming.”

“You mispronounced ‘alarming’.” – @recklessprudence

Pari was six and freaking loved dinosaurs. There is something about the age of six that makes children magnetically attracted to dinosaurs, and nothing can be done about it. However, in Pari’s case, she was obsessed with paleontology. She was not yet a strong reader, but learned to sound things out by pronouncing the greco-roman names of her favourite beasts.

She got sent home for excavating the sand pit. Never mind that she found fourteen previously-lost toys, five pairs of underpants, and the fragments of at least one binkie. And the next month, her father allowed her to excavate a patch of the backyard. Allegedly to keep her out of such trouble at school.

Pari could tell the layers of soil she dug and, though excited to find the remains of a previous owner’s parrot, determined that it was a recent interment and was even able to point out where the soil had been rearranged. It was her dream to find a real dinosaur all of her own. And in the meantime, she learned to read all the complicated words before she got to the easy ones meant for her age.

Challenge #01549-D088: Reminiscing

How do you know I was cursing at you back then, love? You didn’t speak my language yet, and I doubt you remember exactly what I said. For all you know I was paying you lots of loud, angry compliments. -grin- – @recklessprudence

“You forget,” said Pal. “My livesuit was recording everything. I got a full translation in time, and you were cursing me out for everything under the sky.”

T'tin was taken aback. “You knew what I was calling you, and you were still…”

“Attracted to you. Yes. Love is many things, and none of them are logical. Especially when humans are involved. You will note, however, I didn’t start any romantic displays until well after you started liking me back.”

An announcement

Firstly, I would like to thank Neil Gaiman for the idea that wound its way into my head and did what ideas do best: mutate into near cthulu-esque proportions.

See, the kind and apparently flamingo-like Mr Gaiman came up with/publicised All Hallows Read, an event in which people who celebrate Halloween [and even those who choose not to] can give away a spooky book to friends, family or complete strangers.

So I wrote a completely new story. From go to whoa, it took me two weeks, including piddly editing details that are now my new definition of Purgatory [Sorry, Mum].

I did try to write spooky. Almost all atmosphere and the world-gone-wrong and big hairy things jumping on the hero(ine)… but it still wound up as comedy. Le sigh.

I’m giving it away for free anyway.

So watch my Smashwords page come October 4 [Though since I’m Australian, most of you will see it Oct 5…] as my special birthday present to everyone who cares to read my shit stuff is a free short story.

I would very much like it if the folks who took the time to read said free story paid some real money for my other works, but that’s just icing on the cake as far as I’m concerned.

What I really want for my birthday, is to be read.

Have fun.

Who’s Your Favourite?

It’s inevitable, really.

The instant you mention you like My Little Pony, you get asked “Who’s your favourite?”

Isn’t it okay to love them all?

I don’t choose favourites. The things I love, I love equally as much. Love is a fountain that never diminishes, to me. It should be shared as such.

Which is why my imaginary harem contains a shapeshifter, a giant purple talking crab thing, and three different versions of the same fuzzy blue dude with a tail. Oh, and the Lou Ferigno(?) version of the Hulk.

Yeah. I embrace weird. Deal with it.

[For those of you actually interested in such things, that’s Odo from DS9, Pilot from Farscape and the comic, movie and Evo versions of Nightcrawler]

It was the same with the Muppets. Though I had a definite affection for both Kermit and Gonzo, I loved all of them for different reasons.

And now it’s the same for the ponies in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

I don’t have a favourite. I love them all.

I even want some redemption episodes for Gilda and Trixie.

Hell, I’m writing a fic in which the Cutie Mark Crusaders finally discover their talents. With the help of an OC I’ve carried over from a previous fandom.

I embrace weird like all the things I love. With equal fondness.

So, please. Stop asking me which one is best?
