Lots of these fires are already out, but many are still going. You have to zoom right in to check. It’s still good to see that the fires are in a manageable state.
You can check for yourself at http://www.unorthodox.com.au/fire/
Meanwhile, everyone’s still panic-buying everything that isn’t nailed down because Covid scare. I’m so tired of this bullshit…

There’s still many of these that are out of control, but Covid-19 has everyone’s attentions and I get it. That nonsense is a little more visceral than places you’ve never heard of being at this moment on fire. At least there’s way less of them now. So resources can go to controlling them.

Yes, I have been forgetting these. Australia is STILL on fire, but not AS on fire as it used to be. Huzzah?
I think weekly updates should be a thing, and if you’re really stressing, bookmark this: http://www.unorthodox.com.au/fire/
Then you can check for yourself. Whee.

The Labor Party, once a bastion of hope for environmental sensibility, has proclaimed that coal jobs are more important than not being on fire and simultaneously flooded to shit.
Nevermind that entire nations no longer want to buy coal. Nevermind that we’re burning AND flooded because climate change. The Labor Party is off in lala land and sucking up to the almighty Coal Dollar.
…I’m gonna be sick…

Thought somewhere near us was on fire, turns out they were burning yard rubbish. Meanwhile, the rest of Australia is still burning. It never firkin ends!

More fires in the middle, roughly the same fires on the coast… And of course red tape is preventing money flow, big shock.
Great googly moogly, this is exhausting

The news - the bits of it that weren’t about the coronavirus - is telling us that the storms this season are going to be severe. Parts of this map that are on fire are also flooded. It’s just getting worse over here.
Please vote for the environmentalists who have policies that will firkin work.

Those two fires on the southeastern part of Queensland aren’t as near to me as you might suspect. They’re closer to Gympie than the ivory towers of Caboolture.
Canberra is ablaze again, and I have to really wonder what the people we voted for are doing about this. You know, besides knifing each other in the back.

I read in the news this AM that the fires in Australia are out. Horseshit. According to the site, there is still a lot of fire in my allegedly fair nation. So. Anywhere that’s still on fire, please get up whichever news service claims you’re not and tell them how tall the flames are and how much property is at risk or lost.
Fuck these arseholes claiming victory in advance.
The good news is that there’s been a concert benefit to help a lot of people feel better about these shenanigans. A good time was reportedly had by all.
…also, I am very sorry I forgot about doing this for a patch.

Not shown on this map: The cyclone off the northwest of WA, and the cyclone off the east of the Gold Coast [QLD/NSW]. This is not normal weather. Cyclone season usually hits at the end of Spring towards the middle of Summer.
This is happening towards the end of Summer.
Climate Change means more extreme weather, increasingly out of season. @neil-gaiman was right. Australia is the canary in the coal mine.
Tweet fucking tweet. Do something before we all firkin die.
